Canadians often pride themselves on their universal health care system. Medicare, Canada's universal health care system is under Provincial jurisdiction with funding from the Federal government. Medicare covers the cost of most medical treatments and doctor's visits, as well as many prescription drugs.
Excellent Health Care
Most Canadians also choose at least some level of private health insurance to cover the cost of dental work, optometry, physiotherapy, and other prescription drugs not covered by Medicare. In many cases, some level of private health insurance will be provided by your employer as part of your employment contract.
