Number of Canadian Visitor Visas Breaks Record

July 9, 2012, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced a record number of visitor visas from January to June, 2012.

According to the Minister, the number of Canadian visitor visas has reached over 500,000 since the beginning of 2012, surpassing the 450,000 for the same time last year.

"Canada is the best country in the world, so it is not surprising that so many people want to visit our country," said Minister Kenney. "Our country's vibrant cities and remote wilderness are a draw for Canadians and international travelers alike."

Canada expects to approve over one million visitor visas by the end of the year. The figures released did not include foreign students, temporary foreign workers in Canada and visitors from over 50 countries that do not require visas to enter Canada.
